Javier was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico in 1967.
Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1990 from the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico.
Currently living and working from his Studio at the ArtLofts in Saint Petersburg, Florida since 1992.
My native land is the tropical paradise of Puerto Rico. The island is both, exuberant in natural beauty and rich in culture. All elements feel intense, like loud voices.
When it comes to the expression of the arts, I often execute my work with the same intensity and loudness.
The voices of nature are the ones that speak loudest to me. Especially the hidden icons of sacrosanct spontaneity.
The perfect designs that would elude the usual attention. My current work springs from that lifelong fascination for the natural elements. Copper is the main working material, but also other metals; natural pigments and enamels are often incorporated in the pieces. Chemistry processes and techniques as developed by the Master of the Arts, Jack Lebowitz, are my vehicles.”The pieces you enjoy on my current collections were created using the fumed copper, metals and enamels and mixed media on metals techniques. The coloration is the actual copper patina, organic pigments and/or glass enamels, elicited by our unique chemical processes.
