100 Daydream home hostsThis week in Florida was like no other. The Sunshine state experienced an unprecedented novel Coronavirus crisis, also known as COVID-19. Business and life as we know shut down and everyone sequestered at home, including me.

After following the federal government’s coronavirus mandates in hopes of flattening this invisible enemy, we find ourselves on the internet, watching lots of TV, including HGTV, reading home décor and design magazines and just reflecting.  If you live in Tampa Bay you may still be in shock and rejoicing over the news of Tom Brady joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

So what’s next after almost a week of quarantine?
If you are reading this blog you likely have interest in interior design, home décor and furnishings. If you are Realtor, real estate home staging may be your thing. Well now you’ve got all the time in the world to survey your domains and start planning your next home update move.

Speaking of watching TV and HGTV, Home Frosting just finished furnishing and decorating 4 reveal homes for the network’s new show, 100-Day Dream Home. The show’s hosts, Mika and Brian Kleinschmidt, a husband and wife team tasked with an ambitious goal of taking a new buyer from—finding the home site to completely building a new house—in less than 100 days. Then our team of designers and furnishing experts dress and decorate every room so the big reveal truly looks like a dream home.

Highlights from the first episode can be found here.

The second home we did for a young family in Pinellas Park, Florida. The wife is a recent new mom and the husband is a local chef. Our interior decorating criteria was to create a comfortable, relaxed family-friendly home working with their lifestyle and finishing selections.

Here’s the big reveal photos and 5 expert home decorating tips to inspire you to make some decorating and improvement changes in your house. If you need help or like a product you see, reach out. We can help you with both.

Style your home with these home décor tips

  • All white and light linens in a bedroom feel fresh and will make the space look larger. We mixed a vintage desk and chair with farmhouse-styled bedroom furnishings. Monochromatic art panels are placed behind rustic wood lamps. A large linen upholstered headboard along with indoor/outdoor area rug complete the relaxed and causal look. See the photo below.
  • Bright pops of color energize a room.
Tangerine, sky blue, magenta and lively lime transformed this space into a fun family living room. We started the room plan with an off-white sofa, accessorized with colorful pillows and two swivel linen chairs. To compliment the rustic floors, we accented the room with a two-tone distressed wood console and blue suede fringe ottomans. The area rug is from our friends at World of Rugs. The 100% wool flat woven dhurrie-style rug is reversible and features a lime green ikat pattern. The floral art was a focal element that tied everything together.  See the images below.
  • Layering always adds a great design dimension to a room.
The family moving into this home had a young daughter. We decorated the room for their little princess. We used soft pink, sage green, sky blue, mystic purple and lots of white to create this whimsical space. A layered velvet crown headboard against a large canvas of splashed art, a fringe pillow and throw, white lamps and furniture completed the look. See the photo below.

  • Animal prints and art are running wild in well decorated rooms.
Here we made the third bedroom a TV/media and guest room. We started with a classic black leather futon, added brass accent tables, a black and white wool geometric rug, playful lama art and zebra print pillows to create a global-inspired bonus room.

Quick tip: adding glass to the top of a coffee table will expand the useable surface and make the piece feel larger without the extra design element. See how we incorporated below.

  • Outdoor spaces should complement the home’s exterior color and style.
This simple decorating tip can easily enhance a home’s curb appeal and polish up any back yard entertaining areas. We are not suggesting things have to be matchy/matchy, as much we are saying have a clear design story between significant visual elements like exterior paint color and architectural style. We finished this HGTV home with a natural wicker and wood outdoor lounge set, an organic, jute rug and coral throw pillows. Check out the space below.
