This month, the Tampa Magazines Network (South Tampa Magazine, Tampa Downtown, and TAMPA Magazine) invited Home Frosting to be the design expert for their holiday issue. The article highlights 2020’s hot holiday décor trends, along with some questions to help get your planning going.

We were honored to contribute and suggested we deck out and photograph a new home we just completed for MGA Homes at 3405 W Beaumont St. The home’s modern architecture was a great example of how space, scale, and simplicity, combined with just the right holiday touches, can create an impressive & festive vibe for entertaining and enjoying.

Holiday decorations are very individual. Your look may be about a religious celebration (like Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa), bringing in the New Year, or you may just be looking to add some seasonal accents to reflect the winter spirit. Whatever your case is, here are 5 places you can easily add holiday style to in your home, along with a roundup of some inspiration I found from other world tastemakers.

1. The door and entry console
Wreaths set the holiday tone, mats are always welcoming, and your entry console is the perfect spot to add an elegant pop of holiday style. I love the layering of the rugs by the door also.

2. Bookcases and shelves
Curate beautifully wrapped gift boxes (or wrap up your books with gift paper!) to dress up your bookcases & shelves.

3.Chandeliers
Any source of lighting can be holiday-upped with a ribbon, ornaments, or some twinkle garland.

4. All tabletops and chair swag
Table runners are back in vogue, and your large & small votives and vases can be filled with everything from fresh branches to colorful ornaments. And why not glam up your upholstered chairs too? The twinkling chair covers shown below are carried exclusively by Hammacher Schlemmer, and they even have matching twinkling table runners.

Being a very clean and simple-styled designer, I love black and white anything. Bravo to Angie at Little Inspiration for her smart alternative holiday tree, and to The Cotton and Canvas Company (one of the talented Etsy artisans) for this graphic black and white table runner.

5. Poolside and outdoor holiday glow
There are so many elegant and fun holiday looks you can do at a pool – especially in Florida since our holidays never get real snow. So why not create a beautiful mood with floating lanterns, LED furniture, and creative lighting.

Floating balls are beautiful in water and on land.

Light up any space – in or out – with starburst twinkles.

Create a meteor rush with snow failing.
